LIGHTBEAM WEEKEND MADRASSA

The LightBeam Weekend Madrassa has been specifically designed for young British Muslims. The programme is a modular programme which aims to give students - at key stage 3 and 4 level - a basic foundation in farḑ al- ‘ayn knowledge, knowledge that is essential for every Muslim to learn. The LightBeam Weekend Madrassa is a fully-structured Islamic Studies course for 11 to 16 year olds. There are 5 books in total that are to be completed as the students move through their secondary years.

Featuring 36 interactive lessons, books 1 and 2 provide a detailed introduction to the basics of Islam. Additional material will also be covered throughout the year. The course is based on a traditional understanding of Sunni doctrine and the Hanafi school of law, and is taught by qualified teachers. Upon completing the programme, students will have acquired a good foundational knowledge in the core disciplines as well as an exposure to formal Islamic studies.

  • So what is unique about this course?

  • Qualified teachers will deliver the course over 36 weeks, teaching 2 hours each week.
  • 36 different lessons will be taught, covering an array of different, exciting topics related to Islam, Imaan, Ihsan, and living Islam.
  • Each class will be interactive and delivered by British born teachers so as to maximise understanding.
  • The students will have lots of opportunities to ask the questions relevant to them.

  • Is LightBeam Weekend Madrassa for my child?

    This programme has been designed for Muslims children living in the West – from the teachers to the teaching style to the course workbooks. The programme will allow children- at this vulnerable and delicate period of their lives - to not only have access to fundamental knowledge, but more importantly to mentors who shall serve as role models and guides in this sensitive period of their lives. Safeguarding one’s faith and identity as a Muslim is of upmost importance; and it is hoped that this programme will facilitate this for our next generation.

  • Who should attend?

    This programme is tailored for Muslim boys and girls between the ages of 11-16.

  • What is the Cost?

    A registration fee of £25 is charged which includes the full year’s workbooks and activity books.

    The Weekend Madrassa fees are

    • Islamic Studies - £20 per month
    • Qur’an Recitation - £5 per month (optional)

  • What's the Format of the lessons?

    The lessons are 2 hours long with a 10 minute break in between. All lessons are taught from the book and have accompanying PowerPoint slides which are used to display via the overhead projectors. There is plenty of time made available for discussions and to explore Islamic concepts in the modern world.
    An additional 1 hour of Qur’anic Studies is an option for those wishing to learn, re- learn or improve their Qur’an reading.

  • Are there any tests?

    Yes, all students are expected to take termly tests throughout the course and at the end of the Academic Year. Certificates will be provided for those who successfully pass the course.

The topics listed above cover a number of different subjects. Workbooks help to develop themes related to the four Modules, namely:Islam, Iman, Ihsan and Living Islam. A unique aspect of this course is that it hopes to deal with certain contemporary issues facing Muslims living within the UK; such as, identity, gender and being Muslim at school. It is hoped that this course will give our children a much needed framework of what it means to be a Muslim living in 21st Century Britain.
